The Europeans are more and more using the internet, according to the data from the European Statistical Institute (“Eurostat”)
However, the differences between the EU member-states regarding the use of the global network are considerable, in view of the fact that in the first quarter of this year only 19 percent of the citizens of Bulgaria had internet access, 22 percent of the Romanians and 25 percent of the Greeks, whereas this index is 83 percent in the Netherlands, 79 percent in Sweden and 78 percent in Denmark.
The annual survey of this institute indicates that 15 percent of the European citizens have used internet telephony in the first quarter of 2007, compared to the 9 percent in the first quarter of 2006 and 7 percent during the same period in 2005.
Sixty-four percent of the households in Europe have had internet access in the first quarter of 2007, compared to the 49 percent a year earlier.
An increasing number of Europeans are using online discussion forums; 24 percent in the first quarter of 2007, compared to 18 percent during the same period in 2006 and 2005.
