The number of mobile phone subscribers is increasing by an incredible five million every month in China or 60 million annually, and India is also not falling behind in the development of the mobile market.

Given this it is not unusual that the big players in the mobile industry such as Vodafone and some other companies are already entering these two markets. The mobile business is becoming a big business, and this is why the big companies will reorient themselves to the growing markets since they will be the instigators of the mobile telephony business. Тhis is only a part of the topics and forecasts that experts and top managers in almost all the big companies in the area of mobile and IT industry presented at this year’s World GSM Congress which was held these days in Barcelona. However, the announcement of the European Commission that they will require the companies to reduce the roaming prices was one of the main topics discussed by the representatives of the European mobile operators.

Viviane Reading, the European Commissioner for Information Society & Media requested that the European mobile operators harmonize the roaming prices within the EU at a level of 0.49 eurocents per minute of conversation.European citizens and tourists are paying too much for the roaming services. SMS messages and data transfer through mobile phones should not cost more than in the countries themselves – Reading said. The representatives of the mobile operators received this announcement reluctantly. According to them, this is unfair to the companies with a smaller number of subscribers.
Nikola Ljushev, the director of VIP operator - a member of the Mobilkom Austria Group, believes that the regulation in this business is necessary in order to provide a competitive environment. He adds that if the retail prices are altered, then the big and small companies would be put in an unequal position.

At the congress, it was stated that in the future the mobile internet will define profitability of this industry. The big companies are doing more and more in terms of changing the way in which the industry is functioning now and introducing the principles according to which Google is working. This is not unusual if we take into consideration the fact that in Great Britain, for instance, the Blick Company is not charging for the services it provides to the mobile subscribers anymore since it is being financed by sponsorships, and the mobile phone is used as a channel for advertisement messages. The companies have long been aware of the opportunities arising from the internet and the mobile industry and this is why in the future, they will pay more and more attention to the contents that they can offer to their users through the internet. This is the main reason for the greater synergy of this industry with the movie industry and the presence of Hollywood stars such as Robert Radford and Dustin Hoffman at the congress in Barcelona.

What is interesting is that big companies such as Nokia and China mobile have presented the measures that they are taking for protecting the environment. There was a presentation of a mobile phone packing produced from recycled materials, lithium batteries recycling procedure and methods for reducing the exhaustion of harmful gases in the production process. Nokia also presented a model of a mobile phone that would be made of recycled rubber, cans and the chips that would be made of recycled materials.
