Some of these ethical issues are: informed consent, right to privacy and protection of personal data, respect for dignity and integrity of the person, etc.

Ethical aspects concerning the use of ICT for independent living of elderly people, persons with disabilities, for social and cultural integration of migrants in their new communities in Europe, ICT for the social inclusion of marginalized young people, and the inclusive e-government services will be discussed during the workshop.

The Commission has identified the urgent need to clarify ethical issues in order to respect the rights of users and enable thriving markets to develop. Inclusion in the information concerns amongst others ICT for healthy and independent living of elderly people, assistive technologies for persons with disabilities, ICT for integration of marginalised young people or migrants.

The workshop is planned as a key event on ethics and e-Inclusion, where high-level leaders, experts and stakeholders can explore the main ethical challenges and provide advice on ethical principles to be respected in ICT for people at risk of exclusion, in research, deployment or implementation activities.

The main conclusions and recommendations from this event will be presented during the i2010 Conference organised under the Slovenian Presidency on 13 and 14 May 2008 in Brdo.
