The US Information Technology giant “Intel” will invest in education in Macedonia, announced the Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, during the working visit of a high-level Macedonian delegation to the United States this week.

The Government of the Republic of Macedonia and “Intel” signed a memorandum of understanding with Intel in the city of San Francisco.

“This memorandum reaffirms Intel’s support in terms of certain investments in education” stated Prime Minister Gruevski after the signing of the document with the president of the company’s Management board, who was informed by the Macedonian delegation about the investment opportunities in Macedonia.

According to MIA’s reporter, Intel’s management was briefed about the investment opportunities from every aspect, mostly in terms of taxes, and about the fact that the Macedonian government invests a lot in IT education; details were presented about the increase of IT student quotas and the opening of a new Information Sciences University, which is to start working from October 2009 with classes held in English.

“All of these investments in education indicate that, in the future, large multinational companies, especially the ones in the IT-business, could count on Macedonia as an excellent business destination”, emphasized Prime Minister Gruevski, adding that it is important to provide not only low taxes and fast integration to the companies, but good personnel as well, in terms of quality and quantity.

For the Macedonian Prime Minister, the participation of Philip Riker - the US Ambassador to Macedonia in the delegation is supporting the efforts for attracting investments in our country, the creation of new jobs and the strengthening of the economic relations between the USA and Macedonia.

The Macedonian government delegation, comprised by the Vice Prime Minister for economic affairs, Zoran Stavreski, the ministers of economy, foreign investments and information society - Fatmir Besimi, Vele Samak and Ivo Ivanovski, and the director of the Macedonian Agency for Foreign Investments, Viktor Mizo, had meetings with the managements of the American giants “Hewlett Packard”, “Oracle” and “Sun Microsystems”.
