Just few days after gaining $536 million as compensation from anti-trust suit with Microsoft, Novel has filed new lawsuit against the software giant. This time, lawsuit is over word processing program, WordPerfect, which Novel owned for two years.
Novel claims that Microsoft abused its monopoly in the field of operating system and intentionally withheld critical technical information about Windows from Novell and performed corrections in Windows in order to infringe the stability and to decrease the performances of WordPerfect. Just to compare, Novel purchased WordPerfect and Quattro Pro application for one billion dollars in June 1994. In March 1996 WordPerfect and Quatro Pro were sold to Corel Corporation for only $170 million. In a press release, Microsoft disputed Novell's claims that it was responsible for WordPerfect's declining market share. WordPerfect's market share had already begun to decline before Novell acquired the application.
