In Skopje, Veles, Bitola and in many Macedonian towns young IT enthusiasts networked their computers

In Skopje, Veles, Bitola and in many Macedonian towns young IT enthusiasts networked their computers. A lot of games and information, communication, even open door to internet are just some of the benefits obtained by installing wireless router, antenna and network card.

Experts say that by wireless networking, network users could have internet access even if there is only one user with ADSL connected to the network. Wireless networks are usually used for establishing networks between buildings, while in the very buildings the networks are created with cables. Various networking combinations are possible.

Mr. Jovan Petrov from Macedonian NGO portal MaNGO Online thinks that wireless network technology in Macedonia has been used long time ago.

“There are young people across Macedonia that that are fond of this technology. They are connecting their computers and communicate, create databases, play networked games and have fun. All you need for establishing wireless network is wireless router, receiver, network card, and antenna,” said Mr. Petrov.

All elements for establishing wireless network can be found in Macedonian shops. All you need is wireless router that costs 80 euros, network card that costs 20/25 euros, and antenna/receiver. Our enthusiasts often make their own antennas following the schemes on the internet.

From Niko Computers said that all necessary elements for wireless network can be found in their shops.

“Our company sells D-Link routers. They cost from 70 to 80 euros and the sale is great. We are selling network cards, too. This technology offers enormous opportunities. Users like wireless networks since they provide internet access with reasonable connection,” said from Niko Computers.

Among first wireless networks in Skopje is network promoted by the “Gajtanless” NGO. On their web site, one can obtain all information how to connect on this network. The computer geeks from Skopje established access points in several settlements in Skopje that emits the signal to the members.

“Gajtanless is nonprofit Macedonian NGO. Its objective is developing wireless technology in Macedonia since we think that it is the future. We invest our own money - the participation fee is 1.000 denars per year which is not enough even for maintaining the network. We must stress that Gajtanless NGO is not an internet provider,” is written on hteir web site.

At this point, Gajtanless members can exchange information via the network and play network games. In addition, they can establish audio and video communication. Guys are stressing the fact that the network is not intended for making profit.

“Gajtanless is created of pure enthusiasm and we do not guarantee 24/7 technical support to the users,” said Gajtanless members.

Wireless networking is growing in the neighbouring countries. In Belgrade, NGO Center for Internet Development functions as sub-provider, i.e. mediator for internet access between its users and several internet providers and by doing this, it has provided its sustainability. ZG Wireless organization operates in Zagreb. They function similar to Gajtanless and their network is near 1000 knots.
