Makedonski Telekomunikacii hired private company for collecting debts to make subscribers pay their outstanding debts. Credit Express Company received an authorization from Telecom to collect the debts by visiting their homes or to call them on home telephones.

Credit Express has already started to send warning letters to subscribers on their home address. In the letters is stated that Makedonski Telekomuniklacii authorized Credit Express to collect the debts. A bill is sent to the debtors in order to pay it to a specified dead line. Debt-collecting company explains that they have Telecom's authorization to conduct all the necessary measures in order to collect the debt. Credit Express states that they are going to negotiate with subscribers for terms of payment, pay personal visits to the debtors, telephone calls and resolving the issues. Debtors are warn that after the dead line they are going to be sues by Telecom and should pay the court taxes.

Telecom explained that they hired the company in order to increase the payment. Overall debt to Telecom is 1.5 billion denars, or 25 million euros.

“Credit Express Company was selected on international open competition. The company has the authorization to collect the debts to Telecom in accordance to the Macedonian laws. Authorization contract was signed on July 12 govern by the international experience and the practice of all of the bigger providers of telecommunication services," said Valentina Netkova, Telecom’s spokesperson.

This step in seen as an attempt to collect the great number of outstanding debts, since the subscribers prefer to be disconnected rather than paying the bills.

Disturbances continue in Telecom by sending employees to forced vacation and reorganization of security department. About 50 employees received noticed over fast mail that they do not need to come to work after vacation. Management sent notices informing them that they do not need to come to work due to business reasons, decrease of work process or forced vacation. According to the notices employees are going to stay at home at least one month after the vacation. They will receive 80% of their salary.

Employees in security department are under stress of losing their jobs. Company management sent them written notices stating that the rationalization of sectors that are not essential, i.e. security, would continue despite employees’ refusal to transfer in private security company.
