The Nexttel Company announced that it would be among the first companies that will offer fixed telephony services to the citizens acting like Telecom’s competition. Currently, Nexttel offers only international telephone calls with acceptable prices compared with the Telecom's ones. One minute phone call to USA, Canada, Australia, EU, China or Russia by using Nexttel service costs 6 denars. Makedonski Telekomunikacii charges 19 denars for one minute call to USA, Canada and Australia.

“We have submitted a request to the Agency of Telecommunications for notification for public fixed telecommunications operator. As soon as legal and technical preparations are finished, we will start as competition of Telecom in the fixed telephony. It is still early to tell the prices that we are going to offer to the users. We prepare several packages with services,” said Marjan Grijakovikj - Gjurovski, Nexttel director.

Nexttel user does not need additional device or internet access for international calls, unlike other operators that offer international calls via internet connection. All they need is telephone line or mobile phone. The user buys pre-paid card with limited minutes for conversation. The cards cost 250 denars per 30 minutes, 750 denars per 107 minutes and 1500 denars for 250 minutes. For international call the user should dial local number of the service, enter the pin-code from the card and dial the international number.

Drastic decrease of the prices for international calls is the first advantage from liberalization of the fixed telephony. Every day new companies emerge that offer cheaper international calls compared with the prices offered by Makedonski Telekomunikacii. One minute call price for international call is almost equal to the price for local call charged by Telecom. After fixed telephony was liberalized the internet provider On.net was the first company that offered cheaper international call with pre-paid card Ozone. Such services with similar prices are offered by Megaline, Delta 3 and Rasoft net communications.

Provoked by this, Makedonski Telekomunikacii decrease the prices for international calls for 50%.

The citizens can hardly wait for such competition in local and national traffic in fixed telephony caused by the liberalization that would result inn decrease of the prices.
