Macedonian Prime Minister Vlado Buchkovski expects tender procedure that would bring competition in fixed telephony to be completed by the end of the year. Prime Minister beliefs that the tender for using (Electric Power Company) ESM network for telecommunications' services would produce very high offer since among companies interested in applying are MER, Samsung and Siemens.

“The only question that remains unanswered is the date of the tender and to get competition in fixed telephony. In all other segments of telecommunications market we have drastic price decrease,” said Prime Minister Buchkovski and added that it is obvious that we cannot expect emerging of the second fixed operator in telecommunications like Telecom.

“Analyses show that many other segments in telecommunications sector can bring profit for the state. Therefore, announces from MER, Samsung and Siemens show that we can expect reaching the highest price from the eventual new user of ESM technology,” said Buchkovski.

ESM and MEPSO are expected to submit information to the Government about the opportunities for using ESM’s network for telecommunications’ services by the end of October, so the Government could have an opinion before announcing the tender for ESM’s privatization.

We got information that Agency of Electronic Communication is receiving requests for notification from the companies interested in offering telecommunications' services. There are over 20 notification requests for local and international telephone traffic submitted to the Agency, as well as 5 requests from the companies that want to develop their own networks. Among them is the request submitted by On.net, a provider that already offers VOIP services.
