All 84 municipalities and the City of Skopje will be equipped with IT equipment donated by the Makedonski Telekomunikacii. This is stated in the Memorandum of Cooperation signed by the Ministry of Local Self-Government and the Telecom on September 26, 2005.
The 120.000 euros worth donation is comprised of two packages. First package is intended for 46 municipalities where ADSL installation is possible, and the second package is for the remaining 39 municipalities. First package encompasses ADSL internet access, computer and web site. Second package is without internet and it is intended for municipalities with no possibility for internet access. “IT in municipalities will provide development of one-stop shop system and will enhance cooperation between municipalities by exchange of information. The decentralization process will be accelerated and enhanced,” said Ms. Tanja Altandzieva, deputy minister for local self-government. Mr. Attila Szendrei, chief executive officer of Makedonski Telekomunikacii said that the company’s donation budget for 2005 and 2006 is approximately 800.000 euros for development of information society in Macedonia.
