IT sector in Macedonia and in the region in successful economic years grows with 20% grow rate, showed independent market research. That is far beyond results and capacities of many other sectors, said Gjorgji Milev, executive director of IT company ‘Intelicom’.

“There is real information boom going on in the region lead by Bulgaria and Romania. There is a trend in these countries for providing outsourcing services to the companies in Western Europe. This symbolises the huge expert capacity that Macedonia does not have. For example, Romania produces 50.000 IT experts every year. The great IT development in these two countries is additionally boosted by privatisation, foreign investments and EU access funds. Currently, Macedonia is on the margins. Yet, many Macedonian IT companies, including ‘Intelicom’, manage to use positive trends and to find their place on the foreign markets.

How much Macedonian companies invest in IT?

Our companies, regardless whether they work in industry, agriculture or provide services, are faced with international competition and thus forced to use modern technologies, including information technology. Investments in IT correspond with the Macedonian market capacity, but still they represent significant share of overall investments. Companies with foreign capital such are Telecom, Mobimak, Cosmofon, Stopanska Banka, Tutunska Banka, Diners Club etc. are the leading companies in IT implementation. Yet, other leading companies are not much behind these.

What is the Macedonian market response to ‘Hewlett Packard's’ products distributed by ‘Intelicom’?

For decades ‘Hewlett Packard’ is a well-known brand at the Macedonian market with 50% of total sale of information equipment and services. The company is selling well specific business solutions such are pay-cards systems, banking software, software for telecommunication companies. Business software time is yet to come. It has been announced recently that HP business software ‘openview’ sales will have grow rate of 62.3% per year. We expect similar, even better growth rate in Macedonia. ‘Intelicom’ in partnership with HP or independently has already implemented very successful projects in few local companies.

What are the advantages offered by this software?

Openview is a pallet of products for information service management such are e-mail and cash turnover system in the banks.’openview’is number one product of that kind in the world because of its complexity, quality and sale. Regardless the size of the company or business area,’openview’software can help in saving time and enhancing the quality. Companies whose businesses depend on IT such are telecoms, banks, financial institutions, bigger companies are the biggest clients.

Are companies, banks above all, interested in implementing ’openview’ software?

Current topic in Macedonia is harmonization of Macedonian banking system with the European one that demands high security level and access of banking services. ‘Intelicom’ runs projects for implementing information security systems and business continuity by the ISO17799 standards in several banks and financial institutions. Most of these systems are incorporated in’openview’software and through information service management.

Are state institutions interested in investing in IT?

In many state institutions today work professional and IT educated people aware of the implementation of IT. There is a political initiative for development of information society. One-stop-shop system implementation is also related to investing in IT. However, great state interest in information technology, is not supported by appropriate budgets.
