All 84 municipalities in Macedonia and the City of Skopje will receive 5 or 6 computers for the urbanism departments. Computers and equipment valued 12 million euros are donated by the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR).

“This is very important for the decentralisation process and gives new dimension to the local democracy,” said Rizvan Sulejmani, Minister of local self-government on the occasion of signing the Memorandum.

The Memorandum is another turning point in the decentralisation process, according to Ervan Fuere, EU ambassador in Macedonia.

“Today's ceremony presents spirit pf solidarity with this small but wonderful country. That spirit will help Macedonia soon to become a member of European family, where it belongs,” said Fuere.

Andrej Petrov, ZELS’s president, said that the training and equipment provided by the EAR to Macedonian municipalities will help to meet the needs in urbanism and planning.

The “Programme for training for urban planning and providing computer equipment, from 2004 to 2006” is two-year project with budget of 3 million euros. Its implementation has begun with trainings for employees in urbanism departments.
