Macedonian Parliament adopted Wednesday a Law on free access to information with 62 votes in favour, one against and one abstained.

The Law exercises the constitutional principle that guarantees free access to data and freedom to receiving and transmitting information, as well as publicity in the work of information holders.

The Law predicts creating list of information in order information lookers to know which information are available for them. Information holders are obliged to provide public access to regulations, programmes, strategies and other documents regarding their scope of work, as well as the way they are going to do that.

The Law also stipulates setting up of an independent Commission in charge of protecting the right of free access to public information. The Commission will be consisted of 5 members proposed by the Government and elected by the Macedonian Parliament.
