Page 3 of 6 National Strategy for Development of Information Society On April 1, 2005, Task Force on information society adopted National Strategy for Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and the relevant Action Plan. National strategy was adopted by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia on June 16, 2005 and by the Macedonian Parliament on September 21, 2005. The development of the Strategy and the Action Plan was supported by Foundation Open Society Institute - Macedonia (FOSIM), Information Technology Committee of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, and United Nations Development Program (UNDP). In 2005 public forums were organized in several towns throughout Macedonia, and also on Information Technology Committee website to get the public on board in the process of final drafting of the documents. The National Strategy and the Action Plan identify the mechanisms, and the legal and fiscal framework necessary for the implementation of e-governance and education, e-business initiatives, and development of the ICT infrastructure. Activities of the Metamorphosis Foundation within this project in 2006 are in line with the needs and priorities stated in the National Strategy for Information Society Development. Focus will be put on the local government – the e-Rider model will be used to support them in order to prepare local plans/strategies for ICT development. Independent measuring of Information Society indicators will be made through opinion polls and analyses, and monitoring the progress of implementation of the National Strategy. The project will support active participation in creating and organizing public points for access to the Internet; training of trainers for e-civil education. Local communities and civil society initiatives projects for bridging the digital divide will be supported with the help of public wireless access points. In addition, support will be given to local content development. Download National Strategy for Development of Information Society Download National Policy on Information Society
