The directors of Balkan university libraries signed joint strategy for faster access to the new European library, rapid digitalisation of the valuable texts and increased exchange of information and experience in the realms of electronic library information network COBISS.
Agreement for mutual cooperation was signed by the directors of the National and university library in Sarajevo, National and university library in Ljubljana, Serbian national library, Central national library in Cetinje, Information sciences institute in Maribor and the National and university library in Skopje.
The director of the National and university library in Skopje, Borko Zafirovski, said that the joint agreement is application of the EU recommendations for development of the regional cooperation.
”This is the beginning of the Brussels suggestions for development of international and regional cooperation. University libraries are the keepers of the cultural heritage and without them there is no accession in the European Union. This is step closer to the European library, as well as to the European institutions,” said Zafirovski at the occasion of signing the agreement in the National and university library in Skopje.
According to the agreement the libraries in the region will prepare projects to attract libraries from Bulgaria, Albania and Greece to join COBISS network. They will start technology cooperation in order to be able to digitise lot of scripts and audio files that would be incorporated in the European libraries catalogues.
