On April 18, 2006 at the Club of Parliamentarians USAID organised conference on “Building a Culture of Internet Security in Macedonia”. Conference objectives were to demonstrate the Macedonian ISPs preparedness to meet the minimal security requirements and their commitment to continuous enhancing the internet security in the following years. Such preparedness will be promoted in the USA in order Macedonian domains to be removed from the black list.

Dick Goldman, USAID Mission Director and Suzi Hagen, MCA’s Chief of Party held the introductory speeches.

Ryan Kalember, Verysign representative, presented the research Cybercrime in Macedonia, Report Results and Action Items whose results will serve as base for the future efforts for removing Macedonia from the e-commerce black lists and improving the perception of Macedonia regarding the suitability for cooperation with multinational companies.

Representative of Makedonski Telekomunikacii, Tomas Konja and Ognen Firfov presented the infrastructure and practice of the biggest Macedonian internet provider related to preparedness for electronic financial transactions.

Instead of conclusion, Mr. Kalember presented the next steps of the initiative – strengthening the USAID cooperation with all Macedonian ISPs, preparing the Declaration on Security, as well as other activities for strengthening public awareness, lobbying and advocacy.
