Future fixed operators are prepared to offer citizens cheaper telephone calls if there is favourable price for using Makedonski Telekomunikacii centrals and network.
Agency for electronic communications approved reference unbundling offer (MATERUO) last week. The offer obliges Makedonski Telekomunikacii (MT) as operator with significant market power to rent centrals and electronic communication network to new operators thus allowing them access to end users via the MT’s cuprum lines without building their own network.
Predrag Chemerikic, On.net director, claims that he has not seen the offer yet.
“I do not expect favourable and good prices that will allow competition. I hope that it will not be the case as with the interconnection prices that I expect to be decreased after the analysis conducted by foreign experts. Yet, we must start from somewhere. We have waited a long time for this offer. This means that we do not need to dig channels to install cables tom the end users, but the end users will use our services via the wireless network or the MT centrals,” said Chemerikic.
Agency for electronic communications has determined the monthly fee for reference unbundling offer, full and shared access, as well as fees for physical and remote collocation.
”Fees are determined based on the performed comparative analysis of the European communications markets. We think that with the fees and deadlines for implementation alternative operators will find economic interest to enter the market. This will allow competition in the voice services and broadband markets,” stressed from the Agency.
Future operators identify the price for connection on the MT’s network as obstacle for competition development and demand its decreasing. Because of the high price not a single company for telecommunication service out of 30 with notification has signed agreement with MT four months after the reference interconnection offer has been approved.
