Macedonian secondary school students compete for the title of the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics that is organised in Nikosia, Republic of Cyprus. The winners will be officially announced in Friday, the last day of the Olympiad.

Macedonian team is consisted of the following secondary school students: Dimitar Mishev, from secondary school Slavcho Stojmenski, Shtip, Alen Stojanov, secondary school Kocho Racin, Veles, Bojan Kostadinov, secondary school Gergi Dimitrov, and Ilija Lalkovski and Stefan Trajkovski, secondary school Rade Jovchevski Korchagin form Skopje. They will demonstrate their knowledge and skills in programming in three languages: Pascal, C and C++ and will try to be better than the teams of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Turkey, Serbia, Montenegro, and the host, Cyprus. Olympiad is taking place in the Cyprus College and in the Europe hotel located in the heart of Nikosia.

Macedonian national team is headed by M.Sc. Metodija Janchevski, Institute of Informatics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and president of the Macedonian IT Association and Mile Jovanov. Nikola Postolov from Shtip won the bronze at the previous 13th Olympiad held in Rhodes Island, Greece.

Credits for participation and for the successes of Macedonian IT students both at the Balkan Olympiad and the World Olympiad in Informatics goes to Macedonian IT Association that also is an organiser of national competition in informatics in the secondary schools in Macedonia.

Among the biggest successes of young Macedonian IT students are 7 bronze and 2 silver medals won at Balkan Olympiads and 6 bronze and 2 silver medals at the international Olympiads. In the year 2000 the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics was held in Ohrid.

Boris Trajkovski, Number 1 person of Macedonian Informatics

Members of the Macedonian IT Association regarded former president of the Republic of Macedonia, Boris Trajkovski as the most deserving person for development and affirmation of informatics in our country. Among the achievements of the former president are the project “e-Macedonia” and cooperation with representatives of the Macedonian IT companies. In addition, Macedonian IT Association pledge for introduction of the subject Informatics in all levels of educational system, and it is against improvisations with the new subject Information and technical education that should be taught by technical education lecturers trained only with 20 lessons.
