With only one fixed telephony operator and few companies offering telephony services Macedonia is literally at the bottom of European countries according to the number of public telephone services operators. The biggest number of public telephone services operators has Germany, 437, followed by Spain with 293 and France with 222. Information on telecommunication sector in Europe were published by the European Commission in the annual report for all EU member countries. They show that Macedonians, regarding the standard of living, are paying extremely expensive telephone bills.
13 eurocents with VAT is the average price of a three-minute local call in EU member countries. Citizens of Belgium pay much above the average, or 20,6 eurocents for three-minute local call. For ten-minute local call, EU citizens pay 36 eurocents.
Three-minute national calls cost 25 eurocents, while ten-minute national calls 75 eurocents. Local one-minute impulse in Macedonia in normal tariff costs one denar. One-minute national call costs three denars.
Last month British Collin International confirmed that Macedonia tops the countries with most expensive telephony. Its analysis showed that Macedonian citizens pay equal monthly fee with EU citizens. According to Collin International Macedonia is below the EU average regarding international calls, but much expensive compared to Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia and Bosnia.
Our country is at the bottom for internet usage, the service still estimated as “very expensive” by the experts.
