Home page of the State Archives of the Republic of Macedonia website has been hacked for several days. Instead of the introduction to the contents, the hacker inserted image with Arabic letters and installed player that plays ethno-rap song in Turkish. The hacker even signed the website with “Hacked by Badger”.

Old website interface has been completely modified. Instead of the blue background with the logo of the State Archives of the Republic of Macedonia in Macedonian and English, there is a black background with golden Arabic letters and several Turkish words. The sentence is probably a verse of the song that is an introduction to the website contents.

The website has not been completely destroyed, only the home page has been hijacked. Even that page has not been completely hacked. Apart from the image with Arabic letters the menu is left untouched. Using the menu, one can easily access other pages of the website. Only few of them have content, like legislature and terms of use.

The State Archives of the Republic of Macedonia website is the governmental portal, but it looks like nobody access the website in the previous days to see what has being happening. The employees in the State Archives did not know that their website has been hijacked. When we called them for the statement, the secretary was not able to connect us with the people in charge.

Experts said that this is not a big deal, but added that if the hacker was able to do this, he can do much bigger problems.

 “Since he hijacked the homepage, he could easily reach the smallest part of the server and to make greater damage,” said the experts.

Internet search showed that the State Archives website is not the only website hijacked by the Badger. He hacked the websites of the Ukraine state committee for water management, Hungarian TV station Delta, and several foreign primary schools. Those websites also had only their home pages hacked with Badger signature. It looks that that is Badger’s style, to hack only the home pages of the websites.
