Best school websites developed within the Macedonia Connects projects were awarded on December 13, 2006. American ambassador in Macedonia Ms. Gillian A. Milovanovic, Sulejman Rushiti Minister of education of the Republic of Macedonia and Ljupco Tagasovski, Project Manager of USAID’s Project Macedonia Connects attended the event.

In his speech minister Rushiti thanked the people of the USA and USAID and said: “Our next common aim is complete integration of information technology in all spheres of educational process, teaching, learning and instruction. We will dedicate our energy to creating curricula that will effectively include electronic learning, educative software and virtual libraries.”

In addition, minister Rushiti noted that the next educational revolution will be through implementation of information technology in education. Currently, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia is trying to implement four new projects for development of information society: computer for each child in the schools from 2007, free training for pupils and citizens for basic computer skills, free internet and financial support for 5.000 IT students at our faculties.

Secondary school Marie Curie-Sklodowska and primary school Cyril and Methodius from Skopje won the first price and were awarded with IT equipment of $1.000.
Considering the fact that there is no exact formula for evaluating the websites and to decrease the subjective opinions the evaluation was performed by a Commission consisted of representatives of the following organisations:

• Ministry of education and science
• USAID (American agency for international development)
• MASIT
• Macedonia Connects Project
• Metamorphosis Foundation
