Directorate for Personal Data Protection of Republic of Macedonia will organize an Open Doors Event on January 29 (because January 28 is Sunday) enabling all interested citizens to visit its premises and receive direct information.
Personal data protection is part of the right to privacy, which is one of the basic human rights and freedoms. The protection of privacy is guaranteed by the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms.
On January 28, 1981, the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data (ЕТС 108/81) was open for signing, and 25 years later, in 2006, this date was symbolically proclaimed Data Protection Day.
Republic of Macedonia as a democratic state, a member Council of Europe member and a candidate for membership in the European Union, together with many other European countries celebrates the Data Protection Day for the first time. On this occasion events will be organized all over Europe, aiming to raise public awareness on the issue of personal data protection, to inform the citizens about their rights and enable their implementation in a more efficient way.
The "Open Doors" event will start at 10 am, and will end at 4 pm. The Directorate is located on Samoilova Street number 10, across the road from Skopje Fortress Kale.
