Today, in the hotel Alexander Palace, the completion of USAID’s three year project “Macedonia connects” was formally marked.
The brief ceremony was opened by the project director Ljupcho Tagasovski, who was also moderating the ceremony. The opening address was made by the U.S Ambassador to Macedonia, H.E. Gillian Milovanovic, who emphasized the need for further development of internet access in the schools, beyond the official project completion at the end of this year.
The ceremony continued with the comprehensive speech of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Nikola Gruevski. He presented a retrospective analysis of the events relevant to the project in the past period and made a promise that the Government will continue with this kind of cooperation in the future as well.
He announced that various new measures are already being prepared in order to achieve their ultimate goal – turning Macedonia into a regional information-communication center.
Later, the formal handing over of the acknowledgements to the most meritorious project participants took place. Onnet ISP was acknowledged for the successful realization of the Internet structure in Macedonia, E-net for the installation of the computers, World Learning, the representative of the Onnet project Mr. Goce Nikolov received a special award, whereas the last award went to the director of e-school, Zdenka Nikolovska, who symbolically handed over the portal http://schools.edu.mk to the Minister of education and science Sulejman Rushiti, so that it continues working and developing.
