Misrosoft’s fifth “Vision” conference was held on the 9th and 10th of October in the hotel Alexander Palace. The conference was opened with a spectacular performance of Novi Sad’s Sambansa band. Being one of the most important events in the field of IT industry in our country, this year’s “Vision” hosted more than 600 participants and over 30 foreign and domestic lecturers.
The conference was marked by Misrosoft’s new products that should be launched soon. SQL 2008, Visual Studio 2008, Windows Server 2008, as well as the Office 2007 Macedonian Interface Pack were presented.
Microsoft’s director, Ilijancho Gagovski, made a presentation at the conference during which he emphasized the need for adapting the education system to the information technology revolution:
“In our country, as well as in many others, the concept of the current education system is based on the benefits of the industrial revolution. The information technology revolution is imposing a new approach in the educational process. It is now less important how the atoms are organized, and becoming more important how the bits are arranged. Infrastructure is becoming less significant than infostructure. The power of computers is being doubled every 18-24 months, which means that ten years from now, the present capacities will have been increased by 128 times.
These changes, as well as the opportunities offered by the Internet - which made knowledge easily accessible, lead to a somewhat paradox situation – knowledge in itself is not sufficient for success. It is much more important what is to be done with the knowledge and how to bring life into it. This is where information technology comes into play.”
The presentation of the Expression Studio package was another novelty at the conference, with which Microsoft offers a complete solution for the web designers. Microsoft’s new applications are enabling the creation of the next generation of interactive web applications. The presentation of Microsoft’s Silverlight marked the beginning of the competitive battle with Adobe Flash. Another interesting innovation from Microsoft is PopFly - the fun, easy way to build and share mashups, gadgets, Web pages, and applications.
At the conference, 7 year-old Marko Cholosan was awarded a special acknowledgement, a Microsoft certificate for installation and problems with XP operative systems and desktop applications. After he was officially presented to the representatives of the Macedonian IT industry, Marko was awarded a package of computer books and games by Microsoft’s director, Ilijancho Gagovski.
Although a few technical problems occurred during the conference, this year’s “Vision” successfully presented the latest technology trends.
