The prices of medicines, computers, solar collectors and some of the prices of public transport tickets are dropping.
The prices of these products and services were reduced yesterday instead of on Friday, when the Public Revenue Office announced the beginning of the application of the new reduced VAT rates. The businessmen say that they used the weekend for making an inventory and correcting the prices. In the public transport, only the prices of railway tickets were reduced. The prices of the tickets for the city public transport remained the same; 25 denars for the private buses, and 35 for the buses of the Public Transport Enterprise. The transporters announce that the new prices with a lower VAT rate will be introduced next week.
Regarding the medicines, the field survey indicates that the medicines in “Gradski Apteki” and “Zegin” are cheaper in average by 40 denars, and 20 denars cheaper in the Associated Pharmacies Macedonia (ZAM).
We reduced the prices of the medicines according to the reduced VAT rates, but there is some information that the producers of medicines would increase the prices, and this would not be right. If this happens, when we will spend the reserves, we will have to procure more expensive medicines, and this will influence the sales price and the desired effect will not be achieved. If the state is giving up its own share that should go to the Budget, then it would be wrong if someone acquires this money – says Blagoja Mehandgiski from Zegin.
When it comes to computers, the prices of hardware and laptops were reduced, except for the prices of monitors.
According to our estimates, the LCD monitors should be included in the group of products for which the reduced VAT rate is applied, and only the older models of monitors should remain in the products for which the 18% VAT rate is applied. But this should be confirmed by the competent entities and therefore the monitor prices remain the same for now – explain the people from this business.
In our country, up to now the prices were quoted in euros without VAT and the 18% rate was calculated on this amount. Now, we are calculating a 5% rate on the amount. The prices of the printers were also reduced by 13%. A modern laser printer now costs about 100 euros – say from “Accent computers”.
The people from “Duna computers”, owners of the Apple Super Store, say that the number of visitors in their stores has increased since yesterday.
People were probably waiting for the lower rate to be applied and there is an increased interest among the citizens since yesterday. Some of them were buying, and most of them were interested in the prices. For example, the most sold laptop computers HP 530 were sold for 37 thousand denars on Friday, and their price is now 34 thousand denars – say from “Duna computers”.
The solar collectors’ VAT is reduced only for the water-heating collectors and not the electricity-generating solar collectors.
For weeks we have been asking for an explanation from the competent persons about why the VAT is not reduced for the electricity-generating solar collectors that we are selling. If the goal is to make natural energy cheaper, then I don’t see the reason for this discrimination – says Zvonko Markovski, owner of “Sieto”, who created the first eco house that only uses natural energy.
The representatives of “Eterna solar” - the manufacturer of water-heating solar collectors inform that they have reduced the prices according to the corrected tax rate. On Friday, a solar collector was sold for 151 euros, and since yesterday the price is 135 euros – say from this company.
The people from the Public Revenue Office say again that they don’t have the power to force the tax payers to correct the prices according to the reduced rates, but they are calling on them, so that the measure would prove justified.
